Crashing cars in his brain.

"I asked her sister for a cell number, at least, but something tells me that 401-GO2-HELL is out of service."
--from My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult.

My mom celebrated her birthday three days ago. Happy birthday (now belated) to her! My brother celebrated his two days ago and now he's eighteen. Happy birthday (again, now belated) to him! I don't know if it makes me sad or happy to know he'll be leaving for college soon. I've joked about converting his room into an art studio, but I think I'll really miss him.

I got my hair cut and re-highlighted this past Wednesday. Several people/friends at school commented on how "nice" or "good" it looks and by the tenth person, I've taken their word for it. It's a change from my long hair, that's for sure.
Darn. I meant to take a picture of the collage I created to go along with a quote from Shakespeare's "Much About Ado Nothing." I made it as part of a project for English. Since it was due yesterday, who knows when I'll get it back.

I've seen two turtles at the nearby pond on my walk home from the bus stop. Unfortunately, I lack my camera with excellent zoom and as soon I get within about ten yards of them, they waddle into the pond and submerge, their escape plan complete. I'm not that scary, am I?

My outfit Thursday:

My outfit Friday:
I'm not trying to morph into a fashion blogger. Oh no, I'm going to leave that to the pros. I just felt like it.

As for the guesses about my social issue art project, Indigo was the closest, but still incorrect. Depression is certainly the emotion I'm trying to convey, though! I'll try to post another picture for another hint relatively soon.

RIP J.D. Salinger. I was planning on reading The Catcher in the Rye sometime this year. Now I definitely will.

Have a good weekend and following week.

The night starts here.

I realized I never showed my free-form watercolor to you all. It was my first time using the medium and I am not happy with the result. I feel like I let myself down. I wish I could show you some of my classmates' work -- it's amazing! One girl, incidentally also Stephen/Steven's ex-girlfriend, did this spectacular piece where a girl had an octopus for hair and was surrounded by other sea creatures. When our teacher had first introduced the project -- last November yet -- she showed multiple examples that included marine life and I think it influenced most of us in the class to do something similar, almost subconsciously. Anyway, the girl's watercolor was also featured/made into a poster for a local art show and won money. How cool is that? I think she is well-deserving.

Model Student Senate was unexpectedly fun. I think my various friends enjoyed being either Senators or pages. But, if nothing else, we got to skip a day of school. Will I continue to do it next year? Probably.

I also went and saw To Save a Life with Aniesa, her sister and others yesterday. It wasn't bad. I think I inhaled enough popcorn to certify having high blood pressure, though! I know they do that intentionally so you'll buy a large drink as well. Sneaky, sneaky scamming bums! Now I want make a trip to the cinemas to see The Lovely Bones and perhaps Sherlock Holmes.

Today is my first best friend's birthday. We lost touch after pre-K and have recently reconnected through Facebook. I miss watching Maisy with her. Plus, tomorrow is my mom's birthday. Time to make a card.

It's going to be interesting to juggle three art projects at once. One will be the nebula -- not the one orignally posted -- with not paint but oil pastels. New medium, new struggles? I'm up for the challenge. My grandfather drawing still looms and I've recently been tackling my social issue project. I'll let you see a picture of it. It's not even close to being done. I'll be taking guesses as to what you think the issue might be based off this small hint in the comments. :]

Good night and good luck.

Fall came late.

I'm of few words today. Just know that I think life is ironic and I'm struggling to be happy amidst conflict.

The 'camera obscura' necklace I got from ModCloth.com for Christmas. I love it!
My Blowfish hobbit boots. :D

I seriously hope you all have a tremendous week while I ponder the meaning of life and perhaps start painting this:It's a nebula!

Rope up your mind.

The days just keep going by faster and faster.
I know really spelled "siete". It has since been fixed. My point for taking and posting this picture, however, is to show you my ultra lovely storyboard for my Spanish project in which we must take pictures of ourselves going through our daily routine.
My beloved panda Bento box. :D

A guy asked me if I had a special someone in PE the other day. I shrugged, laughed nervously and smiled weakly. I'm awkward when it comes to this kind of stuff, but being told I'm awkward at it only makes me even more so. Anyway, he's older and he gives good hugs. Sadly, I don't remember any other part of the conversation. Chances are he meant nothing by it. Besides, he has a fan club of freshmen girls.

Meanwhile, I said hi to a former crush in the halls and he, fully animated, said hey back. Remember Stephen/Steven and the one girl who used to kiss passionately in the stairwell? Maybe not. Well, they are no longer dating. The former doesn't ride my bus anymore either. Things are ever-changing.

My boots come in the mail tomorrow. I am uber excited! Expect pictures for sure.

Other pictures:

I bid you adieu.

Come roll the dice for me.

Four days back to school and it feels like I never left. It was all fairly productive. Within the short time frame I had a math quiz, a Spanish project assigned (to be completed by next Friday), history booknotes, read Act I of "Much Ado About Nothing" by Shakespeare in English and balanced chemical equations in Chemistry. Thus, needless to say I was excited to wake up this morning and realize it was Friday.

I'm currently working on a drawing of my grandfather, a WWII vet. (Not that my other grandfather is in anyway less cool. In fact, before too long, I am hoping I can draw all my relatively close family members.) I'm planning on completing it sometime in the coming week so expect a picture soon. I'd say I have about 60% more to go.

Meanwhile, our art teacher gave us our next project. We must select a social issue and then portray it, in any medium we choose, and successfully convey an emotion. Which prompts me to ask you, what do you consider a social issue? We had a class discussion about it on Tuesday and it really does depend. Shoot, I don't think everyone in the world even believes genocide happens and other things like that. I won't reveal what issue I plan to tackle nor exactly how right now. It's true, though, that I've been back and forth. At first, I considered making my piece ceramic only to realize it might be hard to even learn pottery basics, much less try to use advanced techniques.

Have a good weekend!

Vacation's come and gone too late.

As hoped, Nikki and I got to hang out yesterday and it was awesome. We hung at my house first, playing games on Wii and going outside to take these photos.

*all credit goes to Nikki in the pictures where I am in the frame

Then we went to her house where more fun ensued. We ate popcorn, spaghetti and answered movie trivia. Then we sat in her room and reminisced. I miss seeing and laughing with her on a regular basis, but I think by not, we cherish the moments together that much more. I'm incredibly happy she's my best friend.

I'm having serious mixed feelings about returning to school on Tuesday though. The positive side? Seeing my friends, especially Puja who has shorter hair now! The negative? The work that is involved. Obviously. I'd much prefer playing Nancy Drew for the PC all day in the comforts of my home.

Well, I'm off to dreamland.

January 01, 2010

This is new.

I was running down the middle of the street this evening, my feet bare, the air frigid. I spread my arms wide though gaining speed. And had I been the slightest bit more bold, I would've shouted, at the top of my lungs, "I'm alive!" because that's exactly how I felt.

I'm excited for tomorrow because me and Nikki are finally going to get to hang out. We're going to have a great time and hopefully take lots of awesome pictures.I had seen her briefly on Tuesday, but it was only long enough for me to give her a belated Christmas present. She loved it and it was "perfect."

Speaking of awesome pictures, here's what tonight's sunset looked like.
I did no editing whatsoever. I thought the palm trees' silhouettes helped make an interesting frame.

Well, here's to an awesome year! Good night, world.
